CLOSED: Acting Academy | Gr. 6-8 -canceled
Develop your acting skills as you collaborate with others student on a short play. Each class begins with fun theater games to build skills that will benefit you both on and off stage. After that, rehearsals take place in preparation for a performance at the end of the quarter. (Depending on the circumstances this might be shared virtually instead of our usual in person showcase.) There are no auditions and all students have speaking parts in the play!
Advanced Chess K-8
Safely have fun playing chess games against friends remotely! Students continue to build strategy and play chess games online through an amazing program, ChessKid. A coach will assist students in matches against fellow friends and teach them different chess techniques. Some prior experience necessary.

Building Wealth-Your Future-Your Choices 5-8 (Thurs)
You will learn the importance of saving and budgeting and the difference between a debit card and a credit card. You will gain the understanding of the importance of their choices for college and career and how debt can dramatically impact their financial future. We will also learn the difference between a checking account, savings account and an investment account and how they all play a role in your future financial success and wealth building. We will cover how to avoid identity theft and much much more.

Capoeira | Gr. 1-5
Learn the flowing, beautiful Afro-Brazilian martial art Capoeira with Capoeira Mandinga Tucson. Students will learn kicks, escapes, and fluid moves that build mind and body strength, flexibility, and agility. Students also learn music that drives the energy of the Capoeira game. Capoeira increases balance, creativity, and confidence.
Teachers Anne Pollack and Aidan Miller-Wells were honored with a 2019 Southwest Folklife Alliance Award. Aidan has trained capoeira over 12 years. Anne is the only master of Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian arts in the State of Arizona.
Creative Writing
Students will have the opportunity to share their writing and get feedback from peers and their teacher. All styles of writing are encouraged--poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, essay writing, and journalism will be covered and a school newsletter will be produced by the students.
E Sports

Do you have a passion for challenging yourself to ” Be the Best?” Do you like Rocket League, HearthStone, FiFa, Madden, 2K? Want to learn insider secrets for League of Legend and Dota2? Join us at E-Sports Beginners we will learn about, analyze, and execute strategies used by professionals, as we hone our skills using specially developed software to help develop reaction time, memory, and control; as well as playing the video games that make us smile while enjoying the company of our friends. This class is for beginners and will help to teach you how to play some of these games in a safe and fun environment.

Exploring Artificial Intelligence | Gr. 6-8
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a part of our lives today and is increasingly becoming more pervasive. This course unravels the mystery behind AI.
Students engage in hands-on learning, training models for speech recognition, machine learning and computer vision and develop interactive programs using these models.
Prerequisites: Prior experience with Scratch programming is required to participate in this course. A laptop or Chromebook with internet connectivity is required to participate in this course.
Intro to Javascript | Gr. 6-8
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of browser-based application development via a fun, graphics and animation and game-based engaging curriculum.
Students learn the fundamental programming concepts including variables, conditionals, loops, functions, user inputs, events and lists, and develop a range of applications and a course-end project to showcase their learnings. The programming concepts learned in this course are transferable to any other programming language.
No prior coding experience is required to participate in this course. A laptop or Chromebook with internet connectivity is required to participate in this course.

Scratch Programming | Gr. 2-5
This course introduces students to block-based programming and provides a fun way for young students to start thinking like a programmer as they explore and develop imaginative stories, animations and games using the Scratch programming environment. Students learn the concepts of motion, looks, sound, events, loops, conditionals, game mechanics, operators and variables as they develop computational thinking and understanding of sequencing, pattern recognition, abstraction and parallelism.
No prior coding experience is required to participate in this course. A laptop or Chromebook with internet connectivity is required to participate in this course.
CLOSED: Vocal Lessons
Learn techniques for singing modern, popular styles of music. Discover how to sing with more power by learning to let go and work less! Gain a better understanding of your voice type, how it works and your range and how to extend that range. You will focus on exercises and apply them to short excerpts. All to choose your own song, work on it with what you learn and present your song at the end!
